The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board (WBJEE) was established in 1962 by the Government of West Bengal. It was set up to conduct the Joint Entrance Examination for admission to various institutions in West Bengal to level up education in medical, engineering, and technological courses.
The Board has been awarded the status of Statutory Body enacted vide as, "West Bengal Act XIV of 2014"named "The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board Act, 2014".
West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) is a state-government controlled centralized test conducted by the WBJEE for admission to many private and governmental engineering institutions in West Bengal. Aspirants can give test after 12th grade for admission in Bachelors or graduation courses. Students who have been into pure Science stream in plus two levels are eligible to give exams with specific subjects tested in the examination, i.e. Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
The Board has the authority to conduct common, combined, competitive, and entrance examinations for taking admission to the UG professional and vocational courses in any college or university in West Bengal.
The Board strives to put efforts towards maintaining transparency and fair practice in conducting Common Entrance Examinations through effective state-of-the-art technology.
Almost 300,000 and several people every year are taking this examination from boards like Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education, Central Board of Secondary Education, and Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations Board.
