UP Board was set up in 1921 by the act of United Provinces Legislative Council, headquartered in Allahabad. The board is Asia's largest board in terms of the number of students. UP Board conducts examinations for class X and XII annually. As per data available, there are more than 22,000 secondary schools affiliated with the board and it controls the examinations and releases results of nearly 64 lakh students.

UP Board operates from its multiple regional offices in Meerut, Varanasi, and Bareilly with head office in Allahabad. Directed by Shri Nath Verma, Education Director, and Nina Srivastava, Secretary, the board conducts most of its activities online.
