JEE exam is an engineering entrance examination. It constitutes of two levels JEE Main and JEE Advance.
JEE Exam formerly consist of two exams, AIEEE and IIT JEE. JEE is an entrance test for getting admission into various prestigious engineering colleges like the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIIT's) and several other Central Funded Technical Institutes (CFTI's).
JEE Main consists of two papers, Paper-1 and Paper-2 Syllabus. Candidates may opt for either or both of them depending on the course they want to pursue, BTech/B. E or B.Arch./ Planning.
Exam Pattern
- JEE Main comprises of two sections – Paper 1 & Paper 2. Duration is 3 hours for both the exams.
- Paper 1 is for candidates seeking admissions to B.Tech. programmes at IITs, NITs, IIITs, & CFTIs.
- JEE Main Paper 2 is for aspirants seeking admission to B.Arch. programmes at NITs, IIITs and CFTIs.
- JEE Main Paper 1 will be held completely online while Paper 2 will be held in online as well as offline mode.
- Candidates are required to answer questions from three subjects: Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics.
- Each Section consists of 30 questions, making a total of 360 marks
- A candidate is awarded (+4) marks for every correct answer; (-1) mark for an incorrect answer; 0 marks for un-attempted questions
- The medium will be English, Hindi, and Gujarati for both papers.

JEE Main Cut off
Candidate with more than or equal to cut off marks qualify for JEE Main and can appear in JEE Advance. The cut off is decided on the following basis.
- No. of students appearing for the exam.
- The difficulty level of the paper.
- Overall candidate’s performance i.e. if many candidates manage to secure a higher number then the cut off is raised and vice-versa
- No. of questions in the question paper
- However, cut off varies from General, OBC, SC, and ST based on the category

JEE Main Counseling Process
JEE Main counseling process and seat allotment are done by Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). JEE Main counseling is done online via a 7 round counseling process.
This involves 5 steps
- Registration for counseling
- Choice Filling process (Choices should be in precedence to the choice of Institute).
- Seat Allocation.
- Once a seat is allocated, a student needs to proceed with document verification at reporting centers.
- A candidate can withdraw the seat by reporting at a reporting center up to the sixth round of seat allocation.
- The candidate needs to pay an amount of Rs. 45000 as a seat acceptance fee.
