The Central Board of Secondary Education has raised the fees of Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations by up to Rs 1,150. These changes have been injected after five years. For general category students, the fees for both Class 10 and 12 have been doubled from Rs 750 to Rs 1,500 for five subjects.
The SC and ST students will now have to pay Rs 1,200 for five subjects instead of Rs 350. The SC/ST students in Delhi were earlier paying only Rs 50 due to a special arrangement with the Delhi government, which paid the balance. However, now the SC/ST students will have to pay 24 times the amount they were paying earlier. The Board’s decision to increase the fees will be applicable from the 2019-20 academic session. It has left the students in heave as the registration process had already begun in several schools and most of them had paid as per the old fee structure. The schools have now been directed to collect the difference in the amount. The students appearing for the Class 10 board exams register themselves when they are in Class 9, while those appearing for Class 12 get registered in Class 11.
The changes in the fees have been introduced by the board last week. As per the revised norms, the SC and the ST students, who were earlier not supposed to pay any extra fee to appear for an additional subject in the Class 12 board examination, will now have to pay Rs 300. General category students will also have to pay Rs 300 for an additional subject, which was Rs 150 earlier.
Hundred percent of visually impaired students are exempted from paying examination fees. As per the sources, those who fail to deposit the difference in the CBSE examination fee before the last date will not be registered and will not be allowed to appear in the 2019-20 examination.
The hike has been introduced after a gap of five years and has fetched CBSE fee at par with other central board, National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS). The NIOS charges Rs 1,800 for male candidates, Rs 1,450 for females and Rs 1,200 for candidates in SC/ST category. The migration fees have also been increased to Rs 350 from Rs 150.
For students enrolled in the CBSE schools abroad, the fee has escalated to Rs 10,000 for five subjects for both Class 10 and 12 which was Rs 5,000 earlier. For such students, the fees for an additional subject in Class 12 have been modified to Rs 2,000 from Rs 1,000.
